Contact Invention City

Inventors - Please make your first contact by email. We do - very occasionally - take on projects helping inventors develop and commercialize new inventions. We only take on inventions that are developed enough to evaluate. 99.9% of the time that means there is a working (perhaps crude) prototype and a provisional patent on file.  We do not sign a Confidentiality Agreement (aka Non-Disclosure Agreement or NDA) unless we are interested in learning more. Unless we have a signed Confidentiality Agreement in place with you (and we don't unless and until we tell you so in writing), anything you tell us will be considered information in the public domain - information that anyone can use freely without considering you in any way. That sounds harsh and it is. This article may be helpful in figuring out how to approach prospects in general.  Your first contact should not tell us what you have specifically but should tell us:

  • General information about the market opportunity - What current product(s) will your invention compete against or replace? Please do not say "there's nothing like it."  If you invented a better mousetrap you can tell us you invented "a better mouse trap" without giving away anything that would be considered proprietary or confidential. A "mousetrap" is in the public domain and would never be covered by a NDA.
  • Development Status - Do you have a prototype? Patent? Provisional patent? Engineering drawings? Manufactured product?
  • Survey Information - What do friends and family say about your invention? Do they want to buy one today? At what price?
